The client

As the second highest perpendicular church tower in England, Derby Cathedral towers above the city. The iconic landmark right in the centre of Derby approached us in early 2021 to redevelop their website and messaging in order to welcome the wider community. Their new website needed to support and manifest that goal in order to appeal to wide range of stakeholders and visitors.

The functionality

The new Derby Cathedral website needed to act as a gateway to everything that happens there. Everything from events, to fundraising activities, the history and routine services needed to be clearly signposted and easily found. Due to the diverse range of website visitors expected, ease of use and a simple navigation was what we opted for during the design process.

The goals

The goals for Derby Cathedral were to have a website in place that appealed to a wide community, whilst also supporting the Cathedral financially via donations. In order to achieve this, we prioritised donations throughout the website, ensuring that the user can always navigate themselves to donate (should they wish to) at all times. As the website was to appeal to regular visitors and less regular tourists, the design needed to be clean and appealing to all types of people from all walks of life. To achieve this, we opted for a clean and modern design whilst not using any overwhelming design elements that may alienate the user and hinder the user journey.

The result

We’re extremely honoured to have the opportunity to work with Derby Cathedral on a website that no doubt will have alot of eyes on it over the coming years. The website is clean and achieves all the goals set out within the original brief.
