Frogspark was founded in 2012 in Derby by Rob and Liam, who started the business while studying at university. What began as a side project, building websites and apps for friends and family, quickly grew into something more serious after they realised they wanted greater creative freedom than traditional roles offered. Early success came quickly, including a pivotal contract with Kifi, a start-up later acquired by Google, where they worked alongside engineers and designers from companies like Apple, Google and Netflix. This experience shaped their commitment to quality and continuous improvement, principles that still underpin the business today. Originally focused on delivering web design and marketing services across Derby, Nottingham and the wider East Midlands, Frogspark has since expanded to serve clients across the UK and internationally.

Over the next eight years, the company experienced steady year-on-year growth, building a team of around 14 people and reaching high six-figure revenue by 2020. Despite this success, the founders recognised the need for a clearer long-term vision. That same year, during the challenges of COVID, an opportunity emerged to bring together three East Midlands agencies, combining Frogspark’s web expertise with Boom Online’s performance marketing and Evolve Retail’s eCommerce specialism. This merger laid the foundations for The Digital Maze, creating a stronger, more structured agency with a clear path to national recognition. Throughout this journey, Derby has remained at the heart of the business, not just as a base, but as a source of pride, community and identity, with a team largely built from local talent and a shared belief that world-class digital work can be delivered from the East Midlands.
