TikTok now has over 1 billion worldwide users and the platform has seen enormous growth in the past few years. But despite this growth, TikTok users are not like traditional social media users, surprisingly 45% of TikTok users don’t have Instagram and 60% don’t have Twitter. One of the main reasons for this is that TikTok users are younger in age and have a different usage for social media. If you want to future proof your business, it’s time to get on TikTok. Find out more about making TikTok work for Gen Z in one of our recent posts.

TikTok is a highly addictive platform and the user-generated content is shown to app users based on the algorithm. Brands are realising that if they want to stay relevant for younger audiences, Facebook and Instagram ads are not going to make the cut. It’s time to make your mark by advertising on TikTok. So, let’s find out how to create a business TikTok account?

1. TikTok Business Content

The first thing you need to do is plan out some great content to push out on TikTok. So how do you go about creating amazing content?

  • Choose your content: make sure you show your brand’s true personality. Keep things light-hearted, humorous and full of character. TikTok is full of great trends and content and you can easily add your spin to trending videos and songs.
  • Create the video: when you’re ready to make the video press the black plus sign and start filming.

  • Add music and effects: TikTok has every popular song on the app and most high performing videos contain popular music on top of their videos. Keep things fun and on trend by adding a fun song on top of your content.
  • Share the video: Finally share your video and add a description, hashtags, links and save it to an album.

2. User Generated Content on TikTok

It can be hard to generate content with the right tone and playfulness for TikTok. Incorporating UGC into your TikTok content strategy is a great way to engage your audience and make them feel they are heard. It also means you have a range of content to share and can build a community with your followers. Take a look at Gymshark for some great examples:

3. Advertising on TikTok

On TikTok, you can create paid advertisements through the social media platform without creating a TikTok profile. You can choose between two core video outcomes: reach and views and there are five types of advertising formats on TikTok.

Brand Takeover: These ads pop up as soon as a user opens TikTok, appearing as a full screen display advertisement that lasts between 3 and 5 seconds.

Top View: similar to brand takeover, these ads appear when the app is first opened but they last up to 60 seconds.

Hashtag Challenge: A big deal on TikTok, hashtag challenges are a fun way to advertise. Millions of users see and join in with challenges on the discover page, and by sponsoring a hashtag challenge you can have a custom banner created on the discover page. Users will be taken to a video that explains and demonstrates the challenge.

In-Feed Video: The In-feed video ads are the ones displayed on the news feed for users when they scroll down the ‘For You Page’. The ads blend in with the rest of the feed and users can comment, share and interact with and like the content.

Branded Effects: Your businesses can create a filter ad that users can add to their content and the filter is live on the app for 10 days.
