Have you taken a look at ChatGPT, tested it out and maybe considered letting it write your blogs for you? 👀
You’re not alone, in recent years AI has become a popular tool for automating content creation, but is it really as beneficial as it seems?
One of the biggest arguments for using AI tools as a writing aid for your content is efficiency. And really, we can’t argue with that. A 1000 word blog can take less than 5 minutes for an AI tool to write, whereas your in house copywriters might take upwards of 5 hours to research, write, proofread and upload.
AI tools also offer consistency, they can be programmed to adhere to specific writing styles and keep your blogs consistent which is arguably handy when you’re trying to adhere to a brand tone of voice and have many writers working on the same project. Another interesting feature of many AI tools is that they can quickly analyse information about your audience, and generate content that’s then tailored to their interests and preferences, potentially increasing engagement.
When we’re looking at using AI, there’s only one man we talk to at TDM and that’s Mr Wayne Barker, SEO Wizard of Drink Digital infamy!
We asked Wayne what the pitfalls could be of using AI for creating your content and here’s what he had to say:
“Should you be using AI for writing your blog posts? Is it going to affect you negatively? Well, there’s that possibility, but we have no idea what the threshold – or lenience a site might get.
We have seen plenty of sites created with AI losing rankings, and we have seen blog posts created with AI not getting indexed by Google even though it has been well aware of them for plenty of time.
Many businesses are going to be keen to cut costs, and increase output under the belief that it will bring them more traffic and money. In reality, this isn’t that much difference from what we saw with spun content, mass-produced and the like a decade ago. And we know how that ended up.
Is a potential short-term gain worth betting your business on? Obviously, people can make their own decisions, and I’m not going to try and tell people they can’t do something – but I know where I stand on all this.”
To keep things balanced, we also asked ChatGPT if we should use AI to write our blog posts, and here’s what it said:
“As an AI language model, I can certainly assist you in writing blog posts by generating text based on the prompts you provide. However, whether or not you should use AI to write your blog posts depends on a few factors.
On one hand, AI can save you time and effort by quickly generating large amounts of text that is coherent and grammatically correct. This can be especially useful if you’re trying to produce a large number of blog posts in a short amount of time.
On the other hand, it’s important to remember that AI generated text may not have the unique voice and perspective that is often crucial to making a blog successful. AI generated text can also sometimes lack the creativity and nuance that human writers bring to their work. Additionally, AI models like me are trained on a large amount of text data, and there may be instances where the generated text includes inaccuracies or information that is out of date or offensive.”
In conclusion, while AI can be a useful tool for writing blog posts, it’s important to carefully consider the limitations and potential drawbacks of AI-generated text, and to use it in conjunction with human oversight and review to ensure that the final product meets your standards and goals.”
Ultimately, it’s important to remember that AI-generated content is not, and never will be a replacement for human creativity and empathy. While AI can be a useful tool in our opinion for idea generation, it certainly shouldn’t be the main part of your content strategy!
