Headless WordPress

The flexibility of WordPress, with the performance of a modern front end.

What is headless WordPress?

Headless WordPress separates the part your team uses to manage content from the part your visitors actually see. Traditional WordPress handles both content management and the front end in a single system. Headless splits them: WordPress manages your content and serves it through an API, while a separate front-end framework renders it for your visitors. Your editors work in the same WordPress dashboard they always have. Your visitors get a site that loads faster and is harder to attack. It is not right for every project, and we will tell you straight if it is overkill for yours. For most business sites, a well-built custom WordPress site is the better starting point.

Why go headless

Speed

Significantly faster load times and much stronger Core Web Vitals scores, because the front end is purpose-built for performance.

Security

With no public-facing WordPress front end, the attack surface most WordPress vulnerabilities target simply isn’t there.

Flexibility

Publish the same content to a website, a mobile app or any other channel without rebuilding how you manage it.

Front-end freedom

Swap or upgrade the front end later without touching your content architecture.

You're not dealing with people learning headless on your project.

Is headless right for you?

Headless adds build complexity and cost. It earns its place for larger organisations, content-heavy platforms, multi-channel publishing, and sites where performance and security are genuinely mission-critical. For a standard brochure or business site, the overhead usually isn’t worth it. We will help you make the right decision, not just the more expensive one.

Frequently asked questions

Traditional WordPress couples content management and the front end in one system. Headless decouples them, which is what delivers the performance and security benefits.

Yes. Content is managed in the same WordPress dashboard. Headless only changes what visitors see, not how your team works.

Usually, yes, because there are effectively two systems to build and maintain. We'll be honest about whether the return justifies it for your specific project.

Primarily React and Next.js.
